OLD FAVOURITES
THEATRICAL REVIVALS IN SYDNEY.
SYDNEY, April 3
The crowded bouses to witness the revival in Sydney of “The Belle of New York” suggest very strongly that if the put>!ic is given the plays that it wants, ’the legitimate stage will continue to flourish despite tlie “talkies.” The popular enthusiasm which has been aroused by the production of this old favourite will undoubtedly lead to further revivals,’ for the potent and profitable reason that these old-time plays are stamped with tlie hall-mark of merit and are box office winners. The J.; C. Williamson management is being urged to majte a choice of some of (the light operas such as “Via Mie R(p4‘ett.<,” “Veroniue,” “The’ I.lttle Miclius,” and “The Arcadians,’’ and to revive, among other musical comedies. “A Country Girl,” and “The Shop Girl.”
