The Government ship Maui Pomare arrived from Apia and Niue Island yesterday. On board the vessel as passengers were Eugene Hugh Fischer of Auckland, his wife and four children and A. B. Walker, C. Fischer’s stepson. Between 50 and 60 persons were on the wharf whan the Maui Pomare came alongside at 11.15 a.m. Among the first to climb over the ship’s rail, before she was properly moored was a member of the Dunedin detective force. He spoke to the purser and was then taken below to a cabin amidships. The .detective lost no time in stating his mission and about ten minutes later he walked ashore accompanied by Fischer.. No action was taken against Mrs Fischer and her children and Walker. They will continue their voyage by the Maui Pomare to Auckland. Fischer was placed under arrest on a charge of having stolen the auxiliary cutter Maroro, valued at £350 the property of Lawrence Pitcher at Auckland on November 18. He will appear this morning when a remand to Auckland will be asked for. Fischer er was escorted on board the Maui Pomare by a member of the Samoa police Force just before the vessel sailed on April 10.
