EIGHT YOUTH’S EXPERIENCE

NEW PLYMOUTH, April 22

Caught by darkness when well off the beaten track, eight youths were foiced to spend the whole night exposed on the tops of the Pouaki Range adjacent to Mount Egmont at a height of about 4QODft above sea level during the weekend. They lighted a large fire with difficulty and although the night conditions w'ere cold and wet they survived the experience with nothing but chilly and vivid recollection. At daylight they found the way back to the hostel some with a taste of real hunger and thirst. '
