AUCKLAND, April 12

A motor car dashing aloiifj; the footpath in Queen Street startod pedestrians last evening and a woman was knocked down and injured. After colliding with the buttress of the -safety son© in Queen Sreet between Fort Street and Shortland Street a small motor-ear, proceeding from the direction of the Post Office, swung across the road, mounted the footpath and knocked down .Mrs Hilda Burgess, of Grey Lvnn, who was standing near the edge of the footpath. Mrs Burgess was thrown almost against the window of a tobacconist’s shop and was taken to hospital suffering from bruises and shock. The car did not sto

along the footpath, missing several pedestrians hy inches. At the intersection. of Queen Street and Shorthand

Street the car left the footpath and •shot into the road. A sailor, who had to jump to escape being struck, ran after the car and attempted to hoard it. However, it was hy now travelling rapidlv up Queen Street and it turned into W.vndham Street and was lost to sight. There were two young men and a girl in the car. The car struck the zone a glancing blow and skidded straight across the road, grazing a verandah post as it mounted the footpath.
