WESTLAND RACING CLUB
A meeting of the Committee of the above Club was held at Mclntosh’.' Club rooms at 8.30 o’clock last evening. Present: Messrs W. E. Williams (chair), Neville, Rutland, McGregor. Yarrall, Breeze, Newman, Sellers, McIntosh, Whiley, Peake, Houston and Evans..
The minutes were confirmed. The President referring to the death of the Hon H. L. Michel, recalled the fact that Mr Michel had been presenl at their last meeting, and rejoiced with them at their success. He had been one of the oldest members of the Chib, and a financial supporter in time of need. His advice was helpful at all times, and he was always ir good heart as to the ultimate prospects of the Club. Mr Michel had led ;■ sterling life and the highest tribute had been paid to him and his memory. The Club had sent a letter of sympathy , and other expressions to the bereaved family, and he asked the meeting to endorse that action by standing in silence. The silent tribute to the memory of Mr Michel was then paid.
The correspondence read included a letter from Mrs Michel thanking the officers and members of the Club foi their expressions of sympathy. Mr 0. Fowler wrote thanking the Gub for gratuity passed following the summer meeting.
Hon Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr H. E. Holland, M.P., the President and Secretary of the Now Zealand Racing Conference, and others wrote thanking the Club for invitations to the Easter meeting.
It was notified that Mr A. A. BesSey, of Christchurch, would be the acting Inspector of the Totalisator at the forthcoming race meeting, that Mr G. E. Gurry would be the Stipendiary Steward, and Mr H. A. Butters, nls< of Christchurch, would be the Racecourse Inspector.
Circulars were read from the Racitu Conference notifying that the annual conference would lie held at Wellington on the ll.th, July; that owner and trainers must confirm in writing all nominations and acceptances sent ii by telephone or telegram, within sere

ceivecl as very satisfactory. A total o ! < horses (53 gallopers and 25 trotters) are engaged for the meeting, and the entries aggregate 250 in all. Tim list of entiies for the two clays appear in this issue. Air A. H. Nanr-ekivell was elected r member of the Club.
A number of matters were finalised. It was stated the Municipal Board would be in attendance at the meeting. The race track was reported to be in excellent order, as also the appointments. The new stalls for placed horses in the birdcage would ensure better control in that quarter, with greater safety-to the public.
