AVELLINGTON, April 8

One of the latest acts of Air .James Ncrrie, public librarian, late of Auckland, is the; institution of a series ol\ classes lor college boys and girls at the- library, with the object of training school children in I lie use of the public nir a ry.

No such suggestion has oven been made to him or is likely to be made.

NEW CLAIMS CONSIDERED

AVKLLINGTON, -April 8

A Council of Conciliation meeting; was held to-day to consider claims for a new award made by the Association of Musicians 5 . The proceedings vore taken in committee and considerable progress was made in arranging matters of minor importance. A difficulty, however, was exiperi-enc-r-d by tlie parties in connection with fixing the scope over which the Union shall operate. The union requested that- it shall cover the whole of the Dominion, while the employers contended that the clause in the present award was sufficient, inasmuch as ti e principal businesses carried on in the , : jues of Wellington. Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. If this difficulty ,-an be overcome, there.is a, reasonable prospect. 11l at the majority of the -important clauses will be agreed .upon.
