A GREAT BLAZE

IN SYDNEY SHOPS. (Australian Press Association) Htece.’ved this day at 8.30. a.m.) SYDNEY, April 1. A fire which broke out on the premises of Harris Bros., drapers, of George Street, city, about four a.m, this morning, spread rapidly and endangered large shopping blocks in George and Goulburn Streets. The flames leapt high in the air. Firemen from every fire station were still fighting the flames at a late hour. SYDNEY, April 1. Firemen from eight brigades effected a good save, assisted by a car parking area, which prevented the flamesspreading along the block. Harris’s premises were gutted, and the adjoining shops suffered badly from water. The damage will run into many thousands sterling.
