GANDHI’S MARCH

PROVING A. FIASCO. F Uuited Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] (Received.,this day at 9,40 a.m.) DELHI, March 26 . The town of - ■■ Giijranisala,-, ; wliicff ,Was the scene ofcfter.ce;:rioting -in the revolutionary outbreak in 1919, has been chosen by Punjab Nationalists as the centre for the stait of the (provincial civil independence campaign. Detachments of Nationalist volunteers from Lahore will on 6th March hoist the Indian National flag over the Town Hall in defiance of Government orders. Thirty-four Congress workers were arrested in the United Provinces for carrying out propaganda work in connection with Gandhi’s campaign. A movement is being started among Indian women to boycott foreign yarn and cloth.

It is understood that Gandhi is disappointed at tho results of his march to the sea coast. He received little hospitality or support from villagers in Broach district. A large number of village headmen who resigned under pressure from Gandhi have now applied t,o the Government for reinstatement. This has caused bitterness among Mahatma’s followers, whose morale is already suffering by reason of the fact that nearly thirty of tho number have fallen out owing to sickness.

It is considered in Government quarters that if the authorities combine .firmness with patience Onncllii and his ..campaign will .prove .a complete fiasco.
