TAX ON WAGE RECEIPTS. The scheme is expected to he on the lines of a proposal that was placed'before the New Zealand Government. '■ The State Treasurer. Mr Stevens, reviewing the ■ financial' : position,' said that even if the Government imposed some additional taxation, its Incomings on the'present basis would fall short of the expenses by four millions sterling. LONGER HOURS NO SOLUTION. SYDNEY, March 26. “Increased hours offer no solution to the world financial depression, and the proposal to lengthen the working week in the railways will not solve the problem facing the Railway Commission. This was the answer of the railway unions to the scheme put forward by Mr Cleary.
