Speaking at a social gathering of his election. committee and supporters the Hon. W. B. Taverner said that though the Government had been in power only a little over a year it could show results of a highly satisfactory nature notwithstanding the many difficult-, s that hail to be faced. Dealing with the State-Advances Department the Minister said that on Dec*- e'ler 10, HUS when' the' Government came into office there were 3971 applications for loans amounting to £4,168,290. waiting to be dealt with. All those applications had been disposed of and the arrears overtaken. Drill" the year 9461 additional applications; amounting to £10.473,2)0 were received. All the applications received during the Government’s first twelve months of office (save a veiy few exceptions which n--e receiving attention) had been dealt with. r lhe amount paid over for the year totalled £6,347.137--a record since the Act came into force in 1894, In Dunedin eightyfour loans aggregating £74,345 were an thorised to applicants during the twelve months ended February 28, 1930.
