United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).
NEW YORK, March 22,
Sir H. Wilkins,, speaking over the radio, told of his contemplated plans for a detailed survey and study of Antarctica.
I)r. Steffanson introduced his former assistant, and told of an occasion when, he. said, Sir H. Wilkins “really saved the expedition.’’ Sir fl. Wilkins reviewed Admiral Byrd’s work, and asserted his convictions of the importance of the establishment of weather posts in Antarctica. He said: “Could men work there ? There would he no more danger than on the streets of New’ York. But we want te see if we can get supplies to men there regularly, and if they could be maintained in conditions desirable enough to get men to stay there.’’
Sir Hubert said that it was difficult to place a value in dollars and cents upon his and Admiral Byrd’s work, hut its importance would be more apparent in the future.
