In endeavouring to avoid the wrecked vehicle on the road, a following car driven by Harry Katlibone a resident of Waipawa applied the brakes, causing i J ie car to skid into a ditch and capsize landing on the hood. The driven and three passengers escaped with bruises and abrasions. A boy of sixteen, Lawrence Franklin of Teuni, travelling down hill on a bicycle yesterday lost control and was thrown heavily, sustaining a fractured right leg. He was admitted to the Waipukurau hospital.

Robert John Bolton, charged with breaking and entering, was sentenced to two years’ Borstal.

MOTOR CYLCIST KILLED. CHRISTCHURCH, March 23
A motor cyclist, Donald Fry, a single man, died in hospital on Saturday evening, as the result of an accident which occurred earlier in the day at Waiononi Road. A car driven by a woman caused the cyclist who was carrying a passenger, to swerve to avoid it, with the result that his machine crushed into a horse and cart. The pillion rider, Clifford. Nankeville, was injured about the head but recovered consciousness soon after,
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, March 24
A middle aged man was charged at the Police Court with attempting to suicide. He was remanded seven clays and his name was suppressed. The police stated lie first attempted to gas himself and then threw himself in the harbour, whence lie was rescued bv a Hanbour Board employee. He was sent to the hospital.

Obituary.—latncs Patrick O’Malley, aged 83, licensee of the Terminus Hotel, Otira, and former owner of the Healey Hotel. He was one of the few mem in Now Zealand who have held two licenses at one time.

The ibodv of Fanny Maud Wilson, aged 60, wife of Albert Edward Wilson, farmer of Amber ley, was found in Wairarapa stream here yesterday. She had been living in the city for two years.

The body of Herbert Rilling, who was missing from his brother’s cottage, Raglan, for a week, was recovered near Raglan Heads yesterday, where lie had been drowned. Deceased was married, aged GO years, and ' belonged to Wanganui. He had (been spending a holiday at Raglan.

Judge Ostler to-day refused an application on behalf ol Gerald L. Stead, to re-open an action in which he was defendant (against his wife) for the purpose of adding new r evidence. Judgment in the case will be given shortly. DRIVER GAOLED.
PALMERSTON N., March 24
A sentence of a month’s imprisonment without the option of a fine, was imposed on Frederick Chesshani, a farmer by MVStoitfS.M., ina charge or driving m a manner dangerous to the public in Featherston street. For driving without a license, a further penalty of Cl with costs, was inflicted. Defendant was previously convicted twice for dangerous driving. STIFF FINES. NAPIER. March 24.
Arthur Yen was fined £360 for carryilia oil the business of a bookmaker,
James Golding was fined £l5O for a similar offence, and £IOO for using premises as a gaming house.
