PALAIERSTON NORTH, March 20. At a meeting of the Council of Alassey Agriculture College, Professor Pcron reported- the erection of the main science refectory buildings was proceeding sa-bjfsfuijtorily. The latter should be ready for the middle term. Professor Riddet reported research work in butter and cheese had been continued, but the results were not likely to be available for a considerable time, on account of the necessity of waiting for reports to arrive from England, on the quality on the goods exported.

UNEMPLOYMENT.

DUNEDIN, March 18

At a combined meeting of the Unemployment Committee, consisting of representatives of the City Council the Chamber of Commerce, Manufacturers’ Association, Employers’ Association, and the District Council of the Alliance of Labour, the following resolution dealing with the Governments’s attitude in refusing to publish the unemployment figures was carried :

“This combined meeting enters its emphatic protest against the Government’s attitude in refusing to publish the unemployment figures, and demands the Government abandon its unreasonable and unwarranted attitude and that the figures be published periodically.”

Proposals for two general loans and two special loans, the total of whi-.li amounted to £131,250, for additions to the sewerage and water works in the town and suburbs, were taken to-day, all being rejected by substantial majorities.

COUNTY LORRY FATALITY. HAW'ERA, March 19

A verdict of accidental death with n 1 blame being attachable to anyone was returned at the inquest to-day on Leslie Murdoch Bloor, 27, a- County Council employee. Deceased was riding on the back of the council lorry on Friday afternoon, when lie overbalanced and fell be-neath the rear wheel, which passed over his head, death being instantaneous.

CAR ACCIDENT

AUCKLAND, March 19

The Aard tourist car driven by Donald Cattanach plunged into a creek near Takanini when a front tyre burst at 7 o’clock last evening. The ear rolled over several times and rested on its side in the creek bed, -which was dry.

The seven passengers were able to open the doors and get out without assistance. Three were removed 10 a private hospital, but only one, Miss Alpin had to remain there. All received only minor injuries.

FATAL FALL

CHRISTCHURCH, March 20

The death occurred at Christchurch Hospital to-day of' John Harris, aged 51, single, who was admitted on -January 9th with injuries sustained by falling from a tree while picking fruit. His condition was not considered serious on his admission to the hospital.

DUNEDIN FIRE

DUNEDIN, .March 20,

A fire broke out at 10.40 p.lll. tonight in a large two-storey wooden dwelling in Stafford Street. I‘be flames had a good hold throughout the building when the brigade arrived, and the structure, with its contents was almost totally destroyed. The insurances are no available to-night.
