VATICAN CITY, March 19.
Huge crowds at St. Peter’s attended a Mass of Expiation offered by the Pope at the Aposties Tomb, for the piofanation of the church and offences Against the Majesty of God in Russia. As the Mass started, the bells of every 'church in Italy tolled a protest to the Soviet.
Pius was borne to the cathedra,l on a raised chair carried by six men, preceded by clergy, and officials of the College of Cardinals, and his arrival -vrns announced by blasts on silver trumpets. After Mass there was an exposition of Sacred Relics, including pieces of ■the True Cross, Veil of St. Veronica, And the Spear with which the Side of •Christ was pierced..
