INDIAN PRINCE’S ESCAPE.
DAR -ES-S ALA AM, (Tanganyika) January 21. Prince Schindhia, the grandson of the Maltarao of Kuteh, who is at present shooting in Tanganyika Territory had a narrow escape recently from a wounded lioness in the Mahenge district. ’ The party, which included Sir Geoffrey Archer, late Governor-General of the Sudan, was out hunting and came across a lion, lioness, and cub. The prince fired and wounded the lioness in the leg. The animals made off into the long grass. A native tracker reported that the lioness was lying down badly wounded,. and the prince went forward, followed by an Indian tracker and a white hunter, Mr Thomp son. Suddenly the lioness charged the prince, who fired, but missed. The Indian gunbearer fired and hit the brute in the stomach. She thereupon turned on him in spite of the fact that he rammed his rifle into the lioness’s face. A third shot from Mr Thompson finished the affair. ;
