PARENTS WARNED
BY THE POPE.
[United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.]
ROME, March 4
The Pope, in addressing his Lenten Letter to preachers, emphasised the present-day lack of parental authority. The Pipe deprecated the attitudes which the children now adopt towards their parents, whom they describe as “cumbersome bodies.” Tbe Pope remarks that girls to-day exchange invitations for visits containing such words as:—“Come without baggage!” thereby meaning to come without their parents. Cl',’ldveil, he says, regard their parents as “know nothings,” and the daughters are allowed to go where they like with whom they like and at any hour they like.
The Pope adds that lie has often heard small children call their father “stupid,” and tell their parents that •“they do not understand anything.” The Pope concludes“ The evil consists in the abdication of any oi itheir duties of surveillance by the parents over their sons and daughters.” The Pope has made it clear that, in his opinion, the worst offenders are those overseas in England and in America.
