GAOLED IN SAAIOA. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Alarch 3. A radio message from Samoa received by Air Hall Skelton, Solicitor, states:—Air T. B. Slipper, Solicitor ior the Ainu, has been arrested on a. charge ol! defamatory libel against rue Administrator of Western Samoa. It is understood that the charge concerns statements alleged to have been published in reference to the recent raid on the village of Vaimoso.

FURTHER PARTICULARI3. WELLINGTON, Allarch ,3. Following proceedings for defamatory libel, Air T. B, Slipper, solicitor, of Apia, has been remanded in custody in Western Samoa, pending the written judgment of the Court. The following official report on the matter was issued to-day:—‘The Prime Alinister (Rt. Hon Sir Joseph AVard) lias been advised by the Administratoi of Western Samoa (Col S. S. Allen) that, as a result of a communication said to have been addressed by T. B. Slipper, solicitor, of Apia, to Tlie Administrator, the Commodore, the Chief Judge of AVestern Samoa, and Prime id inis ter, proceedings for defamatory libel under section 153 of the Samoa Act, 1921, and for insulting words, under section 154 were taken against him.” The communication said to have been addressed to the Prime Minister has not yet been received, and no information is a.s yet available here as to the terms of the document, which, is the subject of the proceedings. The hearing, which was commenced before the Chief Judge on February 26th. (A|iia time), was concluded on February 27tli. and Slipper was remanded in custody until March 3rd. pending a written judgment.
