HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONDAY, MARCH 3rd. The Committee met at - 7 p.m. Present Messrs A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), J. J. Breeze, W. H. Shannon, F. Ghestcrman, II R. Sweney. W. E. Richards, J. Conning and Mrs J. IT. Wilson. The minutes were confirmed and outward, correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Reefton School Committee in reference to picnic arrangements.— Received. From Kiunara School Committee enquiring on what terms the services of the dental nurse could be obtained at Kiunara.—Received and replied to. From Blackball Picnic Committee re picnic arrangements.—Received. From Education Board notifying appointment of Mr C. G. Warren as assistant teacher at District High School as from March 3rd.—Received. From Education Board notifying acceptance of resignation of Mr D. C. Williamson as assistant teacher. — Received. From Canterbury School Committee Association, inviting. Committee to join Association.—-Received. From Education Board notifying acceptance of resignation of Mr E. • Partridge to take effect on 31st March.—-Received, From Dental Nurse reporting total attendances 130, —Received, Accounts as tabled were passed for payment. It was resolved to apply to the Canterbury Board for a grant towards outstanding liabilities. The Visiting Committee (Mrs Wilson and Mr Richards) reported on a number of matters being attended to, and some requirements for the Commercial room to assist in the formation of a Camera Club.—Received. It was resolved to make a grant of £3 as asked for, Mr Shannon promising assistance with advice on the matter. The Chairman’s action in authorising a supply of 35 yards of top dressing was approved. ->F;rom- ®. B. Mora, extra assistant, had ‘been on duty for th'e past two weeks.. The school .picnic had taken place to Reefton in fine :weathei; ; ahd had proved very enjoyable anil successful. Reference was made to cricket matches played and the result of the swimming sports. Thirty boys had notified’ they - were prepared to join the Band and Mr Richards was to commence tuition at an early date. Thanks wore due to Rev. Knowles-jgmith for a. donation of books. Home small requirements were asked for,—Received and approved, ’ It was decided to ask Misb Duff to arrange another concert this year at a date suitable to herself. Mr Breeze enquired as to the position of the several accounts, and suggested that particulars be supplied a,t next meeting. Mr Sweney (Treasurer) stated this would be supplied as desired. A number of minor matters were discussed and the meeting terminated at 8.30 p.m.
