CANBERRA, Feb. 20

Addressing the Australian Premiers' Conference to-day, the Federal Prime Miukter, Rt. Hon. Mr vScullin, dealt with the depression from which Australia has boon suffering. He said:—“AA’e are feeling the effects of over-borrowing! Our difficulties are accentuated ibv the poor season, by the smaller wool clip, by reduced wool prices, by an unresponsive loan market, and also by one serious industrial dispute. Yet,, (lie continued), the recent rains in all parts ol Australia indicate that the outlook for our agricultural and pastoral industries is probably brighter than it has been for years past. A return to normal conditions may he expected at no distant date. Mr Scull in advanced various means for effecting economies in the cost of administration, such as those of electoral co-operation, one tax-gathering authority and the amalgamation of tho Agents-Gcncral in London under one roof at Australia House. The Premiers of the different States then expressed the hope that tlie conference would first begin an examination of the Commonwealth, financial position, in order to arrive at a common ground for a restoration of condence in England.
