VALEDICTORY

MR E. C. ADAMS FA REWELLED

There was a representative gathering of citizens at the Red Lion Hotel yesterday afternoon to bid good bye to Mr E. 6. Ad aims, Registrar of Deeds aiid Stamps, who left this morning on transfer to Nelson.

The Deputy Mayor (Mr D. J. Evans) presided in the unavoidable' absence of the Mayor, and stated they had .gathered to bid au revoir to Mr E. C. Adams, who had ably filled his position as Registrar of Deeds and Stamps during the past eight years. He had been a courteous and efficient officer, and bad been most obliging to all who had business with his department. In ihis social life lie had taken part in golf and bowling, and altogether had Won the esteem of the community in a most unassuming manner. He asked acceptance of a small memento from ihis many‘ friends. Messrs W. Wilson, W. T. Morpeth, W. Jeffries, A. Baker, C. Neville, C. W. Carver, J. J. Mclntosh and J. C. Macfarlatie all spoke eulogising the many good qualities of the departing guest and wishing him well in the future.

The health of Mr Adams was then drunk with enthusiasm. ■

Mr Adams feelingly replied expressing the deep regret he felt at leaving ’Hdkiti'ka after an enjoyable stay of •e'igJh years, during which lie had made •a! great many Warm friends. Ho also wished his successor, Mr Brown, every ■success, assuring those present, of the very able assistance he had received from his staff past, and present.

. The Chairman extended a welcome to Mr Brown and his health was duly honoured.

Mr Brown suitably repl’ed and a ha'ppy gathering was concluded with ■the singing of the National Anthem.
