SPECTACULAR FIRE
CHILDREN’S NARROW ESCAPE

WELLINGTON Feb. 19. A fire took place late this afternoon at a fourteen-roomed two storied apartment house situated in Nairn St., about a mile from the centre of the city. The blaze, which was a spectacular one, resulted in the top storey being completely gutted. A crowd of'well over 20CO people watched the fire from its middle stages, and the firemen had some diffi ulty in suppressing the outbreak. The building ,jyus a.wooden one, occupied by Mrs F. ■Fisher, and owned by Mr T. B. Dwan. A rather sensational feature of the Haze was the removal in the nick of time of two small children from the Slocked room in which the fire originated. Several people were in the house wnen the lire began, but it was a pas-ser-by who first noticed anything amiss. The damage was considerable, and will run into several hundred pounds, but the ertent of insurance has not been ascertainable to-night. The furniture is covered for £4OO.
