MOTORIST GUILTY

NEGLIGENCE CAUSES DEATH

WANGANUI, Feb. 19

A verdict of guilty was returned by the jury at the Supreme Court at "Wanganui to-day when George Mason Glenn was charged with negligently driving a motor-car and thereby causing the death of Michael Connelly and Alma Joyce Crothers The case was the outcome of a collision, at an intersection in Wanganui on January 25th. Glenn estimated his speed at 25 to 30 miles an hour, and admitted having been previously convicted of exceeding the speed limit.

His Honour, summing up, said the jufry had to answer the question of whether it was negligence for the accused' to drive up to the intersection at the pace he admitted doing. It had been said that the other car ran into Glenn’s, but even .if this bad been the case, it would make no difference. The jury, after four hours’ retirement, returned with a verdict of guilty adding a strong recommendation for mercy.

Accused was remanded for sentence
