A message from Chicago states the citizens drawn up in battle order, fought shoulder to shoulder with the unpaid police against, the outlaws of the boulevards and hack alleys. Two bandits were killed and two wounded. A the end of the fifth day in the city’s campaign against organised crime, more than three thousand suspects have been rounded up,. 572 men being , arrested in the last few hours on suspicion of connection with the underworld. Seven of these were found with concealed weapons. A small payment of .1,849,000 dollars Was made to-day to 18,000 city employfor wages for the first fortnight of January.
