The Japanese spokesman officially , reaffirming Japan’s attitude insisting on seventy per cent, ratio in all craft except battles lv s and aircraft carriers, said while his country'was determined to,contribute a full share to securing an all round reduction, it desired to maintain sufficient force to ensure its safety: Too strict an application of either global or : categorical principles would not tend to an agreement among the Powers. Japan favoured a formula harmonising both' extremes permitting transfers in certain categories. She proposed to retain the present submarine strength. FOOTBALL AND THE NAVAL CONFERENCE. Tardieu thus telegraphed tlie War Minister: M. Maginot, with the result that when the' French team ’ iiieets England at Twickenham on Saturday, it will be in full strength. Samatan, the French wing three-quarter, is a private in an infantry regiment stationed at the South of France, whose Colonel refused to grant'him leave. M. Tardieu, hearing of the case immediately despatched the'foregoing.
