DUNEDIN, Feb. 11
One of the Manuka’s lifeboats has been found at sea and towed by a fisherman into Tuatuku Bay. This is the boat that was crushed arid cut adrift after transfer of its passenger's. The recovery.' is of some importance for this boat is fitted with a miniature wireless set, a replica of me Marika’s main set.
POWER BOARD FATALITY
T.IMARU, Feb. 11
Through coining into contact with a GuOi) volt electric wire at Geraldine, Eric Johns, aged 21, a resident of Toinuka, a Power Board employee, met his death. An inquest was opened last 'evening and adjourned sine die.
GISBORNE OIL REPORT. GISBORNE, February 11
Taranaki Oil reportGisborne No. 2 will, the underreaming is shutting off water and drilling. Ran the underreamer to .‘3778 feet and drilled to 3,850 feet in limey shale, and some greensand, mostly hard, but some caving in at 3800 feet, which was muddled off. Gas still showing strongly.
FARMERS HOLDING WOOL. STRATFORD, February 8
The following resolution was passed by the Whangamomona branch of the Farmers’ Union, and forwarded to the Prime Minister: <
“In view of the recent slump in wool prices, this branch of the Farmers’ Union urges the Government to call a conference of representatives of wool and stock auctioneers, representatives of the Government, and of farmers. to consider the ad visibility of assisting farmers who desire to hold their wool clips, by way of making suitable advances against such wool. As the Rural Intermediate Credit Board has the necessary machinery to undertake such a scheme immediately, the Government should make every endeavour to equip the Board with the necessary finance and power to enable the Board to assist in the manner indicated at the earliest opportunity.”
NEW BISHOP OF WAIAPU. NAPIER, February 9
Tlie Rev. Herbert William Williams was consecretrated to the office of Bishop of Waiapu at St. John’s Church, Napier, this morning. Clergy from all parts of New Zealand, including tin Archbishop of New T Zealand; the Rigid Rev. Hr. Averill, assisting in the ceremony. The service of installation took place to-night.
