BIRTHDAY CONGRATULATIONS

WELLINGTON, Feb. 6

A gathering held here to celebrate the 75th birthday of Hon. L. Alls jtt was largely attended by friends from all parts of the Dominion. Rqv. E. D. Patchett presided and spoke of Mr Isitt as one of the foremost moral reformers of the day. He extolled bis strength of character, courage and eloquence. Sometimes their heivos on , loser inspection had feet of clay, hut he has found an increasingly intimate with Mr Isitt had led to an overgrowing esteem. Suitable presentations were made to Mr Isitt, and to Mrs Isitt, who had shared his burdens so loyally. Hon. Isitt in the course of his rer play said: “It is a realisation that thousands of boys and girls in New Zealand are growing up with im thought of God and no knowledge of Christ, that has made me so keen to end the secular system of education which has done untold harm .to this country.”

He thanked the gathering for its fine tribute hut' most of all for theii remembrance, of his wife, who an invalid at homo, had yet been bis inspiration and helper for many long years.
