ROSS LIME COY
RETIRING SECRETARY’ S " * REPORT.
In his report to the West Coast Farmers!.. Co-op. Lime Producing Coy., Ltd., tiie retiring secretary, Mr John Murdoch, states:—-As this will be my* last report as Secretary of the' above’ company, 1 have:' much pleasure in passing'on the good news as contained in the following letter:—“Referring to the application made by your company for assitance out of the Earthquake Relief Fund for the purpose of repairing earthquake damage to the company’s works, I now am pleased to be able to advise that a grant of £2-30 has been authorised for this purpose. Payment of the amount will he arranged through the Department of Agriculture on the completion of the repair work. The Director-General of Agriculture, lias been requested to make the necessary arrangements and I would suggest that you communicate with him on the subject.” At the time of the earthquake ,1n June last, it was not considered advisable, to alarm the shareholders by reporting extensive damage to the company’s pipe line and kiln. Although the estimate of £SOO at that time seemed large, it has since been found that, in the event of the kiln having to be rebuilt, the estimate is under rather than over the amount needed. Shareholders will hardly realise that it is over six years since I took over the management of the company’s business, . If,, has been no easy task to please the! whole 300 shareholders, seven directors, and every year some fifteen.. Government Inspectors, with Government returns to be made out where at present only three men are employed, During this time, I >have made many friends, and, as one would expect, a number of enemies—tllS latter caused by pressing for prompt payment of their accounts principally. I wish to pay a tribute to tiie phess on the Coast for the assistance they have rendered to the company during my term.- Farmers have been wellserved with information by all oiir local papers, the editors realising that the success of the farming community was reflected by increased business in the towns. ' West Coast farmers will be well advised ,to concentrate their efforts on top dressing pasture, as better results for the money expended can be obtained by top'dressing. Whilst thanking shareholders for past favours, I lVould like to. ask that the same kindly* ifeelirig might be extended to the new Secretary, Mr Andrew Thompson, who is prepared to serve shareholders to the best of his ability. Would shareholders irt future not address correspondence to me personally on lime business, but simply “The Secretary, Lime Coy., Ross.”
