(United Frees Association—By Electr^ Telegraph—Copyright). "v ; . . LONDON, Feb. 3. . The, “Daily News’,’, says: The Church of England faces, a, momentous crisis at the Church Assembly on Wednesday, when, arising from the House of Commons’ rejection of the Prayer Book, the Archbishop of York proposes the appointment of a Commission to inquire into the relations of the Church and the State, and to? determine how far the principle of the Church’s inalienable right to formulate and express its faith in Christ can be effectively applied in the . present circumstances.
.The Bishop of Durham supports Archbishop of York. The Evangelical Churchmen are opposing the motion, fearing that it will lead to a “slippery , .slope” .to Disestablishment. The Bishop of Durham, wjio is leading the disestablishment campaign within the Church, admits that the motion will disclose • such a conflict between the Church, and the State, as must compel a drastic alteration of their present relations. It may even require a legal separation. , •>
