BANK RATES RAISED. (Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, Jan. 28. The associated banks at Sydney have raised their interest rates for both deposits and advances. The rate for advances is one half per cent, the minimum rate now being seven per cent. The result of this will be to put a check on expenditure, and a discouragement on speculative buying. The first heat of the Inter-State six metres yacht race for the Northern© cup Between the Victorian yaent “Toogooloowoo” and the New South Wales representative “lolaire” was sailed to-day on Sydney Harbour, and was won by the loiaire by two minutes. (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 297 The Government Statistician estimates the wheat harvest for the current season in New South Wales will be 35,844,000 bushels.- The estimated surplus for export will be about twenty four million bushels which - is eleven millions lower than last season.
