CHINESE BANDITS

RAID BRITISH VESSEL

[United Press Association —By Electric

Telegraph—Copyright.]

LONDON, Jam 17

Posing as revenue officers searching for opium, a boat-load of bandits hoarded the British river boat Tuckwo, hearing six British Embassy members, including the Legation Secretary, between Nanking and Chinkiahg yesterday. They disc Vised thor identity after reaching the deck. Ike bandits wounded several Chinese who resisted, and threw one overboard alive, and then they seized a small quantity of opium. Government troops, on the shore, apparently suspecting piracy, fried recklessly on the Tuckwo, hundreds of bullets spattering on the vessel’s sides. The fire was intensified upon the pirates’ departure in a lunch, carrying the stolen opium. The steamer reached Shanghai safely.
