WORK OF ART FOR AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, January 15

Yet another consignment of works dl ;rt and historical relics has been presented to the city of Auckland by Mr Moss Davis, of London. The shipment will arrive from London by the steamer Coptic about Monday next. The list of. gifts includes a fourteenth century statue representing St. Nicholas from the church at Deauville, France, an oil painting, “Windsor Castle, . > Professor Carl Heffner, an oil painting “Her First Love-Letter,” by Marcus ft one. R.A., exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1889, a framed set of four pictures illustrating Captain Cook’s third and last voyage, and six plates of the eighteenth century Sevres procelain. In his letter, Air Moss Davis states that lie lias been assured of the authenticity o ftlie statue. The six plates are by masters of the Sevres Museum and are extremely fine, examples of the ware made there. He adds that they were made for the Royal Family and presented by the King as a wedding gift at the end of the eighteenth century.
