TEXTILE ORDERS
DIVERTED BY TARIFF

LONDON. Nov. 21
Midland hosiery firms ■ complained •that Australian importers are cancelling orders for tens' of thousands of pairs of stockings in consequence of the revised federal tariff.
Mr J. H. Cooper, Chairman of the Hosiery Federation, declared: “The last revision of the Australian t a rift annihilated our underwear crude there, while the new duties, which are oven more ferocious, will annihilate our hosiery trade.”
Mr Gregory Meakin, Secretary of the Nottingham Chamber of Commerce, said he was urgently advising its members not to accept any Australian cancellations of orders, saying; “The goods, in many eases, are already made, and they must he paid for.” '
