SUPREME COURT

MURDER CHARGE WITHDRAWN

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

CHRISTCHURCH, November 18. At the opening of the criminal session of the Supreme Court, Justice Adams congratulated the Grand Jury on the absence of very serious charges. When Russell George Macarthy came up for trial on a charge of having attempted to murder Theresa Mary O’Neill, in the Empire Hotel, and on a second count of having assaulted her, his counsel, Mr Thomas, said the Crown Prosecutor had consented to accept a plea of guilty on the assault charge, '[’he charge of attempted murder was withdrawn and Macarthy was remanded for sentence on Wednesday.
