ROSS SWIMMING CLUB

The annual meeting of the Ross Swimming Club was held in the Coronation Hall last Friday evening, a fair number being present. The Secretary (W. J. Blacklow) presented the report and balance sheet for the past season which showed a credit balance of £lO. The report stated the baths had recently been thoroughly repaired and renovated, and were now in first class order. All cracks had been cemented up and the whole o*f the bath white-washed. The dressing rooms also had been repainted, all of the work having bfeen done by volunteer labour. The following officers were Appointed for the ensuing year: —President: A. W. Peebles ; Secretary and Treasurer, W. J. Blacklow; Assistant Secretary, A. Head ; Auditor, A. W. Peebles ; General Committee, Messrs A. W. Peebles, W. J. Blacklow, A. Head, A. Hedwig, F. Allan, W. E. Clarke, K. 0. May, •T. Forrest, Rev. E. Os'mers, T. Houlahan, and J.'Rochford. It was decided to hold the opening carnival on Saturday evening, 23rd inst., a committee being set up to draw up a suitable programme which will include a number of novelty events.

Swimming permits for the season was set down at 2s 6d for adults and all school children free. The home nursing class conducted in Ross by Sister Christian is being wel| attended and in future meets every Monday evening at the Coronation Hall. A similar class of about 20 members had also been formed at Ruatapu and meets each Friday evening, Mrs Hayward being secretary. The results of an examination of Red Cross students in home nursing in South Westland, conducted by Matron Lloyd of the Westland Hospital, are as follows, the names not necessarily being in order of merit: —• With honours over 84 per cent. — Hari Han'; M.esdames W. Wall. J. Searle, Misses Saunders and K. Adamson. Also passed: Mrs Rowley, of Ferguson, Miss S. Berrv, R. Thiele, Second year certificate: Mrs K. Lovett. Waiho.—With honours : -Mrs McCormack, Misses K. Graham, Eva Green, Jessie Green. M. Murray, E. Parrick, M. Will jams. Also passed: Misses Agnew, M. Graham, Jessie Murray, and Mrs E. Gibb. Kakapot.ahi.—With honours; Misses Heil, C. Wright, and F. Wright.
