WOMAN’S NARROW ESCAPE
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
PALMERSTON N., Nov. 4
When a six-roomed dwelling at Longburn was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday evening, the occupant, Airs Flanagan, narrowly escaped losing her life. Flanagan is employed at Longburn freezing works in Wellington. At the time of the outbreak his wife-was alone in the house. Mrs Flanagan woke to find the house full of smoke and the back portion in flumes. Twr men, Dahl and Crawford, who were passing in a car. investigated to see if they could render any assistance.
An enquiry of other people at the five revealed no knowledge of anyone in the house. Both men .decided to make sure. Dahl going to the front and Crawford to the rear. Dahl heard a woman scream and forced his way into a smokefilled passage, where Airs Flanagan was located in a completely dazed condition. Dahl had great difficulty in remaining sufficiently long to drag Airs Flanagan out of danger on to the lawn. A bucket brigade was formed and a small shed was saved.
