WESTLAND ROADS

TO BE EXPEDITED. i 'By Telegraph—Press Association). \ ■ \ WELLINGTON, October 24. Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., has now received a further reply to his representation for the completing of the bridges on the Fox Glacier road. The reply is as follows: — Deaf Sir, —In continuation of my recent letter concerning various road works in the Grey r mouth district, in connection with which you ; made representations to me on the 20th ult., I have to advise that particulars in respect to Clearwater bridge and the bridge over a creek at Omoeroa Saddle have now been obtained from my Department’s District Engineer at Greymouth. Concerning Clearwater ' Bridge, the site has been surveyed and the preparation of the plans and estimate is in hand. Immediately these plans are completed, the question ot authorising the Government' giant of £6OO will receive further consideration. With regard to the small creek at Omoeroa Saddle', I am informed that this is known as O’Connor’s Creek, and the bridge is required on the Waihp to Weheka section of the Main South Road. The bridge site has been surveyed, -but the plans have not yet been p.ut: in hand. However, tentative estimate has been prepared, and as this stream is fliable to hold up traffic at times, there is no doubt that it should be bridged as soon as possible, and for that reason an item to cover the cost has been included on the current year’s Supplementary Estimates for consideration by 7 Parliament. You may rest assured that the erection of these bridges will be expedited as much as possible.—Yours faithfully, E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works.
