ANOTHER WHALING SHIP
CONVERSION OF -SOUTHERN - PRINCESS. DUNEDIN, October 23. 'The whaling vessel Southern Princess, accompanied by her five chasers, is expected to arrive at Port Chalmers on Saturday 7 from Middlesbrough. She will load stores and fresh water here before proceeding to .the Ross Sea. The Southern Princess was converted at Birkenhead from an oil tanker into a whale factory 7 rliip. She will be registered in Dunedin by her owners, the 'Southern Whaling and 'Sealing Company. A novel , slipway 7 has been built- into .ytbe - -'vessel's stern, extending from the main deck to the water level,, for the (purpose of enabling the whales to be hoisted on hoard. . . The Southern: Princess will be ’ the fourth whaler to arrive in NewVEealand waters from Europe this season, the others being the Kosmos, the Sir James Clark ROsS, and the-C. A. Larsen.; i .( '•' •'
