WAIMATE JUBILEE
; ANNIVERSARY FESTIVITIES. : WAIMATE, Oct. 13. , To-day was the Fiftieth Anniversary of the taking of the oath of affirmation by the ,first members of the Waimate Borough Council, and so commenced tojlay the first" functions of a week’s festivities. calibrating the Borough’s Jubilee. These took the form of Church services, the' principal of which was held at St; Paul’s Methodist Church, Where eight beautiful memorial windows were. unveiled to the memory of the pioneer and early church workers, j,he Methodists being the first denomination to erect, a Church building in the borough. Memorial windows to fallen Soldiers were also unveiled. The day was fine but cold for the occasion, and jihe function commenced with, a profession which marched through the jnain street'to the- church, in which took part territorials ', .and cadets, headed by the Silver Band. Members of the) Borough Council and ft large number of returned soldiers also attended the ceremony.
