MELBOURNE, October 6
A writ, claiming damages of ten thousand pounds, has been served on the Melbourne “Argus’’ at the instance of the Union Theatres Coy, of Sydney, for alleged libel, arising from the Argus’s publication of an election item, the headings of which, it is clamed, were' understood to mo'an that the Union Company had corruptly paid money for electric signs for ATr Marks,'the Federal candidate for the AVentworth seat, N.S.W. (who supported All - Hughes’s amendment which led to the defeat of the Bruce Government).
