The final figures were Jarvie 4,376. Clancy 4,128, after preferences were distributed. PRISONER, GOES MAD. ' SYDNEY, October 7.' ; Suddenly becoming a maniac, •/ a prisoner at the 1 Cootamundra gaol r-lunged a long carving knife into the hack of a fellow prisoner. After being cowed by warders he was locked in a padded cell. The murdered tnan was Walter Hunter. Hearing cries of agony the w’arders rushed to the cell and man brandishing a knife dripping with blood. He was awaiting trial on a charge of wounding. The prisoners were in the kitchen peeling potatoes when the attack occurred. AIR RACE RESULT. PERTH, October 7. The air race wsjs won by H. M. Miller in a DH9. He receives £IOOO. De HaviHand was second and gets £3CO, and A. Cunningham third, £IOO. F«r fastest time DeHaVilland gets £3OO. He averaged a speed of 105 miles per hour. Heath established the second fastest time and Miller the third. WERES INVESTMENT TRUST. SHARES OVER-SUBSCRIBED. MELBOURNE, Oct. 7. The issue of 750,000 shares in the Weres Investment Trust has been oversubscribed. There have been applications for approximately 900,000 shares.
