MISSION STEAMER’S MISHAP
LLOYD’S AWARD TO OFFICERS AND CREW. AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. An award of £2OO to the officers and crew of the Mission steamer Southern Cross has been made by Lloyd’s as the sequel to the mishap to the vessel some time ago off Norfolk Island when, under very trying bircumytancos,. a jury rudder was rigged to bring tho vessel back to Auckland. Out of the £2OO an amount of £75 is to, go to the chief officer of the vessel, Mr J. AV. Jones, 'who dived overboard and fastened cables to the rudder. After the mishap a claim for £1547 was made to Lloyd’s by the Alission authorities, with a strong recommendation that recognition should bo made of the work done by Air Jones. Cabled advice lias been received v in Auckland that the underwriters have awarded £ISOO in settlement of tho claim. In expressing the greatest satisfaction at the settlement and the £209 award in addition, the AHssion authorities express appreciation of the assistance rendered by Mr R. Smith,. Lloyd’s surveyor at Auckland.
