N.S.W. COAL TROUBLE
WAGE CUT PROPOSAL

SYDNEY, Sept. 25
A meeting of the Full Committee of the Combined Mining Unions is being held on Friday to deal with the lettei which was yesterday sent by the Premier of New South Wales, Mr T. Bavin, to Mi; Davies, General Secretary to the Miners’ Federation, asking if the combined Unions are prepared to accept the Government’s proposals of September 14th. 1929, providing Tor ...e reduction of one shilling per ton in their wages, which is equal to 12} per cent. off ; their contract earnings, and a shilling per day off the wages ol the other labour; the State Government to reduce the coal handling and haulage charges to the extent of 2od per ton; and the Federal Government to pay a bounty of one shilling pei ton on coal sent to interstate ports. It is reported that a large section of the Northern miners are anxious to return to work hut that, a small section are prepared to await the result oi the Federal Elections, on October 12th. nexu, relying on the Labour Party, if successful, to safeguard their interests. The police guard at the Northern mines is being strengthened.
