(Australian Press Association)
SYDNEY, Sept 11,
The coastal steamer Paffinbarra was piled on the rocks this morning close to Port Stephens outer lighthouse, and is reported to be a total wreck. The crew of sixteen are safe.
A sister ship, the Uralla, was wrecked at Stockton, near Newcastle, in June, 1928. The Paffinbarra was .seeking shelter when she was driven on the rocks, • • •-The crew, after 'ail exciting experience, climbed the cliffs to' the light-house-keeper’s quarters. Another coastal vessel, the Bonalbo, is missing, but is believed to be safe at sea.
The howling gale that has continued for the past 24 hours, and the driving rain slightly moderated to-night, but not a solitary ship left Sydney harbour outwards to-day, which is believed to be' unprecedented.
