AVEST COAST TOURNEY

FIRST DAY’S RESULTS

AVESTPORT, Sept. 4.

The AVest Coast golf championships opened in AVestport to-day, 80 players from. AA r est Coast and outside centres competing. Heavy . south-west gales amd rain made conditions of play very ’difficult, and the course was very heavy, some of the greens being partly under water. A. G. Sime (ex-N.Z. champion and present AVest Coast champion) in the qualifying round topped the field with cards of 75 and 77, the next best being T. Park with 86 and 84, and A. Chesney 87 and 84. Par for the links is 74.

Airs Slee, present AVest Coast ladies champion, returned a card of 94, and Airs A. AVilson 96. A. G. Sime scored a win for the best aggregate for the qualifying rounds, won the morning medal off scratch, and tied with three" others for the afternoon medal—a great performance.

<. The Dalgleisli Shield was won by the Biillcr team with a score' of 695, as against 735 by AVestport B. Greymouth and Hokitika . did not enter teams.

In the A'lon’§ Championship tho first round was ’ played in the morning, and the eight best cards were: — A. G. Sime (AVestport) 75, T. Park (Westport) 86, A. In the men’s second round in the afternoon, Sime again came first with 77—this winning the medal with a nett score of 152. The best cards were as follows: Sime 77, Park 84, Cliesnoy 84, Lockey 87, Lovell 89, Revell 89, A. A. AVilson 90, Schadick 91, Callwell 91, 'Shallerass 95, AV. Wilson 103, Pratt 109. The eight to qualify for the championship were: Sime 152, Park 170, Chesney 171, Lovell 177, A. A. AVilson 180, Lockey 181, Schadick 181, Comerford 185. Revell, of Grey mouth, was ninth with 186.

The Dalgleisli Shield was won hv Duller Club with a total of ,695. against Westport Club’s total of 735. In the first round the winners’ scores were: Sime 75, Park 86, Schadick 90, Bird 94. The Westport Club scores were: Lovell 88, Comerford 89, Lockey 94,. Foote 95. In the ladies’ championship in the first round, the following qualified :~ Alrs Slee 94, Airs AVilson 96, Airs Bird 101, Aliss Kelly 110, Miss Tulloch 112, Mrs Multan 116, Aliss Treloar 119, Aliss Bird 124. In the medal competition the net scores weic. Airs Bird 101 —18—83;. Airs Slee 94 10 84;.. There was no contest for the ladies' AVest Coast Shield, which will thus be retained by AVestport Club.
