WOMAN FAILS
TO SWIM THE CHANNEL: (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 31. Attempting a double event, Ivy Hawke, who swam the Channel from France to England, failed, to swim the other Way. She started from South Foreland yesterday, arid was taken out of the water three miles from the French coast, after sixteen hours. She seemed' likely to succeed till midnight, when a head wind caused a rough sea.
