August 14. Judge Curlewis to-clay sentenced William Moore, aged 25 years, a timber worker, -and-- a striker, to twelve months’ imprisonment’ for inflicting .serious injury on a Volunteer timber worker, aged f>s jjears. The Coroner returned a finding that .Jack Cannot (cabled on 2nd inst) committed suicide while temporarily of unsound mind. The public ’ subscriptions resulted in over '£6oo being raised for his wife and family. PRESIDENT OF SENATE. (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) CANBERRA, August 15. Senator Walter Kingsmill, of Western Australia, has been elected President of the Senate without opposition.
