AN AIR STORY (Received this day at 8.30- a.m.) BRISBANE, August 13. Pilot Brain of Quantas Airways, tells a thrilling story of .a novice pilot doing his first solo flight, who was unable to land. The-pupil came-down a couple of times but was unable to stop, and rose into the air each time. Brain went after him in a small aeroplane, and attempted to signal to his pupil, who to his amazement, tied back the controls and at a height of a thousand feet climbed to the tail of his machine and made.some adjustment. He then returned to the cockpit and landed safelv in a distant paddock, as did Brain. When asked what happened, the pupil calmly explained that something went wrong with the gear, preventing the machine from regaining the ground, and the only course was to remedy the defect in mid air. “You’ll do,” was Brain’s proud, hut laconic reply.
