Miss Helen Wills defeated Miss Betty Nuthall 8-6, 8-6. The first set was a notable interesting duel in which Miss Nuthall twice led 5-4, 6-5, but was unable to prevail against her naturally accurate opponent, who invariably fought her down in base line rallies. Miss Wills in the second set had a two games lead only to lose the next three games. They then alternated until the score stood 4-4 and then again Miss Nuthall pulled out to lead 6-5, arid was within two points of the set in the twelfth, but Miss Wills exerted her supremacy to run out the set. The contest was of a high grade .throughout.
