HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
THURSDAY, AUGUST Btli. The Council met at 7.30 p.m. Present: Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), A. C. Armstrong, T. W. Duff, A. R. Elcock, E. W. Heenan, G. Heinz, J. L. Turner and Dr Teichelmann. • Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Evans and King. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From W. H. Gifford, application for water-service and drain connection to section. —Received and approved. From District Public Trustee, Greymouth, asking if Council will grant new lease of Reserve No. 498, Hall Street, direct to Florence Andrews, wiaow of the late John Andrews. —Received. Council prepared to grant lease to Public Trustee as administrator.
From Sanitary Inspector, Greymouth, asking that Sale Street drain, between Stafford and Weld Streets, receive attention. —Received; referred to Foreman for report.
From Pacific Lodge, application ,for water service connection.—Received and approved. From W. Keller, application for extra watfir service connection. Received and approved. REPORTS. From Treasurer reporting receipts £134 16s ; payments £716 8s 4d; debit balance £727 ,14s 10d— Received. ■ Accounts amounting to £ll7 2s, 4d were passed for payment. It was resolved to obtain a report bV Mr Hatherley on necessary repairs to the Free Library building. __ The Treasurer submitted estimates and rating proposals for the year ending 31st March, 1930, the total rates being Is 4d in the pound (including Harbour rate), the same as last year. The usual 5 per cent rebate to ibe granted, except on sanitary fees.—Received and approved. The Manager of the Abattoirs (J. Conning) reported were slaughtered during July, 20 cows, 21 heifers, 76 bullocks, 139 sheep, 11 lambs, 32 pigs, 18 calves. Condemned, 1 cow, 1 bullock. Fees for period, £65 i4s (same period last year £64 -4s) .—Received. ■ FOREMAN’S REPORT. 1 beg to report the following work was carried out during the month: Sewell Street drain has taken up most of the time this month, the pipes were carried northwards to beyond Stafford Street, a distance of two hundred and fifty,i’eet,. while on the south, end pipes were iaid from the river across the street (Gibson Quay) to the Post Office corner, about two chains.
Crossings,—Crossings were put in at the following places: Daly’s in FitUherbert Street, Black’s in Hampden Street, Preston’s in Hall Street, and C. Renton’s in Davie Street. A water connection .-was put in to the •Clothing Factory in Revell Street, and valve repaired at the Government Buildings.
Sewell Street footpath on the northend was chipped and is now being gravelled. The growth from the cemetery hill towards Tudor Street wacut. ‘ .
The gravel pit was stripped qf clay occupying three days. • Two hundred and fifty loads of sand was spread along Sewell Street drain were the pipes were laid. ■ .
Several leaks in the water mains were repaired.
Average water in the reservoir for the month was six feet three inches.
