CORONERS CRITICISM:
(By Telegraph—Press Association). BLENHEIM, Aug. 6. In connection with the death of Violet Chaney, of Kaiapoi, who was killed as the result.of a motor cqr oyerturning at a culvert on the BlenhgimCliristchurch road, near Grassmere, on Saturday night, the Coroner, Mr J. Hill, in returning a verdict of accidental death, attributed the accident to the absence of any indication of the existence of any blind culvert on the road; and remarked that there were a good many such death traps throughout the country. He could See no sufficient reason for the.present distinction in the eyes of the law between the liability of factory owners in respect to machinery and in the responsibility of local bodies in respect to road dangers; and said that statutory provision should be made for railings, or some such indication of these death traps.
